Neighborhoods in SE Portland
Hawthorne & Belmont
Early-1900s bungalows and Craftsmans along two walkable commercial streets lined with cafes, bookstores, vintage shops, and restaurants. Strong bike routes.
Good fit for: Walk-everywhere city living with an older house.
Montavilla
A small main street on SE Stark, Mt. Tabor Park nearby, and generally more house for the money than close-in SE.
Good fit for: Eastside feel, more space per dollar.
Sellwood-Moreland
Riverside with Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, an antiques row, and the Springwater Corridor trail. Close to the Orange Line and the Sellwood Bridge.
Good fit for: A neighborhood main street plus trails and river access.
Mt. Tabor
Mt. Tabor Park sits on a dormant volcanic cinder cone with trails, reservoirs, and city views. Homes range from bungalows to larger houses on the park's slopes.
Good fit for: A big park right outside your door.
Woodstock
A low-key main street on SE Woodstock Blvd, close to Reed College and the Eastmoreland golf course, with quieter residential blocks.
Good fit for: A quieter version of close-in SE.
Ladd's Addition
Portland's oldest planned neighborhood, with diagonal streets, rose gardens in its traffic circles, and historic district protections. Steps from Division and Hawthorne.
Good fit for: A one-of-a-kind historic street grid, close to everything.
Buckman
The closest-in eastside neighborhood, with older homes, condos, and apartments near the Central Eastside, Lone Fir Cemetery, and a quick bike or bus ride downtown.
Good fit for: Inner-city living on the east side.
Sunnyside
Bungalows and foursquares between Belmont and Hawthorne, so both streets' cafes and shops are a short walk away.
Good fit for: Two great commercial streets within walking distance.
Richmond
Home to SE Division's restaurant row and the Clinton Street bikeway, with Craftsman homes on the side streets.
Good fit for: Dinner on Division and a bike-friendly commute.
Creston-Kenilworth
Bungalows and quieter streets around Creston Park, between Powell and Holgate, a short ride to Division and Woodstock.
Good fit for: Close-in SE at a slightly lower price point.
Eastmoreland
Large older homes in a historic district, near Reed College, Eastmoreland Golf Course, and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
Good fit for: A grand older home on quiet, tree-lined streets.
Brentwood-Darlington
Outer SE with larger lots and quieter streets near Johnson Creek and the Springwater Corridor trail. Some streets lack sidewalks or paving.
Good fit for: Room to spread out at a lower price.
Lents
Lents Park, the Springwater Corridor, the MAX Green Line, and Foster Road's growing business strip. Some areas near Johnson Creek sit in the floodplain, so check flood maps.
Good fit for: More house and yard for the money.
